What started as a small seed of an idea has grown and blossomed into an annual tournament. A chance for people that normally compete in the Travel Industry to compete on the pitch, each team with only one thing in mind – to hold aloft the Trophy.
- Six teams
- Six different companies
- Six players on each team
- Only one winning team
Makiti or Makietie, A borrowed word from the Sotho Language in South Africa which has been “Afrikanerized”.
The Sotho word is “Mokete” which means:
“a great feast” In the African tradition this would include singing, dancing, drumming, beer drinking and the slaughter of cattle with a monumental braai and meat done in traditional three legged African Pots and the duration would be two or three days with a great coming and going of people until the beer and meat ran out and everybody was exhausted and replete.Hence it has come to mean a “moerse” (helluva) party in Afrikaans with booze, meat and music.
Footie Makiti 6’s is your chance to take part in our very own Makiti. There will indeed be ‘a great feast’, a feast of sport, a feast of prizes and indeed a feast of food, although we will leave the slaughtering of cattle to the caterers!.
There will be dancing & drumming supplied by your very own supporters, there may indeed be prizes for the best performance or cheer leader!!
Whilst our Makiti may not continue for two or three days the memories will last far longer.
You won’t know just what a Makiti is if you don’t take part, so ensure you are there on the day either as a player or a supporter.
